Congratulations to Allison Mata of Boise, ID, for receiving the James A. Weir Fellowship in Research!
A standout astrophysics major in the Honors College at Washington State University, Allison is conducting groundbreaking research focused on improving the detectability of supermassive black hole binaries (SMBHBs). By analyzing the light curves of quasars, she’s helping researchers better understand how these celestial objects behave, especially over long-term surveys that span up to a decade.
“Participating in undergraduate research has helped me grow academically and personally. It’s strengthened my skills, built lasting connections, and prepared me for a future Ph.D. program in astrophysics.”
Allison has made the most of her Honors College experience, from working closely with faculty and customizing her coursework, to spending a month conducting research abroad in Greece.
We’re proud to celebrate her success and can’t wait to see where her journey leads!
